Yeah Caleb!!!

Sorry the beginning is a little crazy AND it's kind of blurry, but it's all worth it :o)

1 year old

  • Caleb weighs 23 lbs, and is about 31 inches long.

  • He wears 18 mon clothes, size 4 diapers, and size 4 shoes!

  • He has 8 teeth.

  • He loves Daddy's German pancakes

  • Caleb is still on breastmilk, but we're transitioning to whole milk. He eats all types of baby cereal, bread, cheese, mashed up fruits, veggies, and meats, cheerios, puffs, and yogurt.

  • He takes two naps a day. His morning one is about an hour, and his afternoon one is about two hours. We get him redy for bed at 8 pm, and he usually sleeps till 6:30 am.

  • He makes the best smiley face when we say, "cheese!"

  • Caleb is really good drinking out of a regular cup

  • Caleb got a toothbrush and baby toothpaste. His toothbrush has Piglet on it, and it's the cutest thing ever!

  • Caleb was sick for the first time this past month. He had a fever that lasted 3 days! Then a few weeks later he got a cold!

  • He sings to us

  • Words Caleb understands: nose, belly button, bye bye, shake, kiss, clap, head, piggies, puppies

  • Caleb likes to put his head on the floor, butt up in the air, and look at the world upside down! I call this his "gymnastics!"

  • He flips the low light switch up and down in our kitchen!

  • He hits his head and tried to make us laugh.

  • Usually when we try to sternly say, "no" Caleb laughs at us and thinks we are kidding. Well the other day he bit me! I screamed because it hurt and said, "NO!" Caleb put his head down, wouldn't look at me, and then started to cry. He finally realized that that wasn't allowed and that Mommy wasn't kidding!

  • He is even more obsessed with touching ears, ours or his own, when he's falling asleep!

  • When he's getting into something he's not supposed to, and I catch him, he shakes his head and crawls away as fast as he can!

  • His favorite toys right now are two plastic back scratchers! No joke! He uses them like drum sticks!

  • Caleb is pointing at things, and you can tell he's questioning what things are!

  • He's starting to eat holding his spoon!

  • Caleb is walking!! He took his first steps a few days after his birthday!

Caleb's 1st Birthday

On Sunday, Caleb turned one year old!!! I'm a Mom of a one year old!! That's crazy! This past year has been the fastest year of my life. It's also, by far, been the best year! Caleb is such a joy! He is always smiling! From the moment I walk into his room in the morning, he is excited and ready to go! He is always very curious, and always seems busy while playing with his toys, reading his books, and exploring! He loves the dog toys, just as much (if not more) as his own toys! I love watching his facial expressions! I am loving watch him grow and develop into a little toddler! It's so exciting seeing him balance on his two feet! You can just see how badly he wants to walk! SOON! He's been babbling back and forth with us even more, and uses Mum and Daddy throughout the day! We are so extremely blessed to have Caleb in our lives! When we woke up on Sunday, Caleb opened a present of some new PJ's from his Babtcha and Dido.

We then went out for brunch! Caleb loves pancakes, so we wanted to have a birthday breakfast!

I think I hid it pretty well in these pictures, but I actually had the flu on his birthday! I was miserable! I was crying because I couldn't smother him with kisses all day like I normally do! I really didn't even hold him all that much because I was so weak! After breakfast, we stopped by Kelsey and Ham's house to say bye, and I spent the rest of the day in bed. On Monday we had planned to stop in Tuscaloosa again to visit with people I worked with, but I ended up sharing my flu with Erik! So instead we drove straight to Birmingham and waited for our flight home! Even though our vacation was cut a little short, we still had a great and memorable time!!

Kelsey and Hamilton's Wedding

What a beautiful wedding Kelsey and Hamilton planned! We had so much fun dancing and catching up with our friends the whole night! Even Caleb had fun on the dance floor!!

Friday in Alabama

On Friday I attended a Bridesmaid Luncheon! It was so nice to meet and spend time with Kelsey's friends! It was gorgeous outside, and her Aunts did a beautiful job setting up a table for us on the back porch! The food was delicious, and we all had so fun reminiscing times with Kelsey and her family! At the end of the luncheon, all of the girls started singing Happy Birthday. I figured Kelsey must have been surprising one of the girls, so I looked around, and was completely shocked to see Erik walking in with Caleb and my parents!!! Kelsey had been planning a surprise party for Caleb with my Mom and Erik for the last month! I was so touched! I cried! I couldn't believe that she did that for me! She knew how special my baby's birthday was to me! She even had a little cake for him, and one of the other girls had her daughter come to Caleb's party! There were even gifts!!! I will never forget how generous and thoughtful my Kelsey is to me!! Caleb had a great time at his Birthday Party! He was cheesing it up for everyone!!

Y'all...

I'm in a Southern state of mind! We just got back from a wonderful weekend in Alabama! We flew down with my parents for my friend Kelsey's Wedding! It was also the same weekend as Caleb's 1st Birthday! On Thursday we stopped in Northport to eat at our favorite place, City Cafe! Then we made a quick stop in Tuscaloosa to walk around the campus!

Things seem to be calming down a bit after a rough couple of days. Last weekend I came down with severe mastitis. It was awful! This was actually the 2nd time I've had it in about a month, but this time was much worse! I came home from work on Wednesday with chills and an increasing fever. Erik ended up taking me to the ER, and they gave me IV antibiotics. The infection wiped me out for several days.

If that wasn't bad enough, Caleb came down with a virus at the same time! He got a fever that Saturday without any other symptoms. His fever kept getting higher, and wasn't coming down with Tylenol. We took him to the urgent care to get his ears checked out, but they said everything looked clear. We alternated between Motrin and Tylenol, but the fever stayed till Monday morning. The highest it got was 103.2! Poor baby! He was so miserable and punked out. We made quite the pair!

I stayed home from work Monday, his fever broke, but then he developed a mild rash. His pediatrician's office said that this was common, and it sounded like he had some kind of virus. Luckily he's finally back to normal this weekend!

I also spoke to the vet about Reese's pathology results. She said that the pathologist saw a few spindle cells present in her aspirate sample. However, these cells are also present in muscle tissue, so they don't feel there is any concern for cancer! This is the best news!!

So after a few rough days, our household is settling down and getting back to normal! We're gearing up to head to Alabama next weekend for my friend Kelsey's wedding!!! Of course Caleb will be coming with us because his 1st Birthday is next Sunday!!!! Can you believe it?! So in case anyone was wondering, that's why our blog is decked out for a party :o)

Reese is doing well :o)

I am so grateful my Reese is all right after her surgery yesterday! I've been praying for her every day since this lump popped up. When I dropped her off at the vet I was concerned because it seemed smaller. I wasn't sure if she still needed the surgery!

The vet spoke with me, agreed it felt smaller, but thought it still should be removed because of the spindel cell tumor. I was really nervous all afternoon because the vet called me much later than I had expected!

She said that the lump turned out not to be a tumor, but a hernia...just like Bella's! This raised a whole slew of questions! We had suspected a hernia from the get go, but the emergency vet diagnosed a fatty tumor. However, they never did an ultrasound, which is the test used to check for a hernia! Then, our vet never checked an ultrasound either, and just aspirated the fatty tissue and sent it off for pathology.

Our vet said that during surgery they realized that some fatty tissue had pushed through the hernia, and that they had a hernia to repair, not a tumor to remove! This is great news, but then I questioned where the spindle cells came from!? Our vet said she wants to talk to the pathologist to see how he came up with that diagnosis!

While I'm so very grateful that it seems like there's no tumor or cancer, I'm a little upset that we had to go through all of this stress! If it was just a little fatty tissue poking through the hernia, we could have just watched it and not had to have such an urgent surgery!

It makes Erik and me question whether or not we should continue going to this vet, because now both girl puppies had hernias along their spaying incisions! I don't know if that's common, or if they were just sewn up sloppily after their initial procedures?

I'm trying not to worry about all of this, and just be happy that my baby Reese is doing all right!!

11 months old

Caleb weighs 22 lbs!!

He’s wearing size 12-18 month clothes, and size 4 diapers!

He’s been putting his lips into a little “o.”

Caleb drops his cheerios to the puppies!

He crawls over to the dog toys and picks them up using his mouth! Pretty sure he thinks he’s a dog!

He opens his mouth and gives “kisses” to the dogs!

Caleb is drinking from his sippy cup, and is pretty good at drinking from a normal cup!

He spits his food out when he doesn’t like it, especially new tastes and textures.

Caleb nods his head yes now!

He’s beginning to call us Mama and Daddy.

He’s been starting to “cruise” around on the ottoman.

Caleb and Daddy have a special language with clicking their tongues at each other!

He can make little fish lips!

He does this cute little wave thing by putting the back of his hand by his mouth and waving.

He dances every time he hears music.

Caleb’s able to stack his rings on his toy!

He’s been using my old baby walker, and literally runs around the house in it!

Caleb’s been talking a lot more! He goes on and on like he’s having a conversation.

He sticks out his tongue during dinner time.

We can tell when he’s acting out. He’ll usually get this silly look in his eyes, and shakes his head around.

He shakes his arms and does the “Umi Shake,” from the show Team Umizoomi!

He’s becoming “feisty!” He doesn’t want to be held in our arms for long. He wiggles around and throws his body around to escape.

We cannot believe how much he has grown and developed in the last month!! We are loving seeing his personality come to life!
