doing his chores

Caleb's "chore" is to help feed the dogs in the morning. Usually this means helping me put down their bowls with food, then quickly carrying him to his high chair so he doesn't get into their food! Well this morning I put down their food, then got distracted with emptying the dishwasher...this is what happened!

Caleb ~ 16 months old

He got his first skinned knee over the 4th of July weekend! I think it hurt me more than him!

When I ask him how he cries he squints his eyes and makes whimpering noises!

He waves “bye bye” when we flush the toilet.

He loved swimming in a kiddie pool, and didn’t care when he went underwater (under our supervision!!) He even put his face in the water!

He prefers the slides over the swings at the park.

He waves hello now...to everyone! The grocery store is so much fun with my friendly little shopper!
His latest shenanigans are throwing his toys over the gate and down the basement stairs! When I tell him to say bye bye to his toys because I’m not going to get them each time, he stands by the gate and waves at his toys!

He tries to climb the gates!! I’m scared it’s only a matter of time until he climbs out of his crib!

He loves to say “gully gully gully!”

When he goes in the garage he makes loud noise to hear his echo! I always wonder what he’s doing and then figure it out and crack up!

Erik taught him how to knock on the door with his knuckles, and he loves doing it!

He’s getting more teeth, and drooling a lot this time!

He’s blowing kisses with his hand!

He loves blueberries!

He can open the white cabinet in our kitchen and takes out the graham crackers.

He flips the light switch in the kitchen and says, “on!”

Jay and Tina's Wedding

Our whirlwind summer of events has come to an end, but I have a feeling we'll find more things to keep us busy...just hopefully not as busy!! On Thursday evening we had Jay and Tina's rehearsal and dinner. Caleb loved looking at the fish in the pond, and of course looked like he wanted to go for a swim!

On Saturday Caleb and I had a fun day! We got outside right after breakfast to water the flowers before the sun got too hot. He loves helping me with the hose! While he watered I pulled weeds. He would put down the hose and put his hands in the stream. Then he lost his balance and fell right into the water! He was so surprised and looked so cute!

After lunch and a good nap we took the dogs for a walk, and then played in the backyard with his water table. He loves going behind the tree leaves where he thinks I can't see him. I call out, "Where's Caleb?" and he comes running out with the best smile! SO CUTE!!

On Sunday we had Jay and Tina's Wedding! Everything was so pretty, and went well! We had so much fun seeing all of our family again! I only wish we could all get together for longer than a few hours!

Caleb and his 19 month old 2nd cousin, Eli, wore matching outfits! It was totally unplanned! The similarities between the two boys were uncanny! They both have the same color hair, eyes, sensitive skin, and seem to be lefties! Caleb also had fun running around with 3 year old Isabella! It was so cute watching them interact! I can't wait for Christmas when they'll be able to play together again!
It's funny to me. I was so stressed at the beginning of summer knowing we had something to do every weekend, and now it's a little sad knowing that all of our family events are over! I know we still have other fun stuff planned, but I'm really looking forward to spending some lazy days outside with Erik and Caleb!

Our 5th Anniversary

Erik and I celebrated our 5th Anniversary on Thursday! I can't believe our wedding was really that long ago! Erik made us a pancake breakfast, Caleb's favorite, and then we exchanged gifts. The gift for 5 years of marriage is wood or silverware.

I was really excited for my gift because Erik had been working on it all week! I wasn't allowed to go into the basement. He kept telling me that he was whittling me a wooden spoon! Haha! Well what I got was much better than that! He put together a shadowbox for me! It is awesome! His creativity blows me away! He went to Michael's and picked out all of the supplies he'd need to put it together. He put in our wedding invitation, reception card, flight tickets from our honeymoon, the cork from our wedding champagne, a wooden spoon, and a picture of us from 7/14/2002.

The picture is from the summer we began dating! Not only is July 14th our wedding date, but also my friend Meagan's birthday. That year we had gone out with a bunch of our friends to celebrate Meagan's birthday. That night was when we announced that we were dating :o) I love my present!

For Erik I picked out a golf club, a wood! I was so excited when I thought of that! I got some secret help from Matt to make sure I bought the right club, and one that Erik actually needed! He loved it! Now he said he'll never forget our 5th Anniversary! Maybe when he's golfing it'll remind him to play quickly so he can come home and spend some time with me!!!

One of my favorite quotes is, "Soulmates are people who bring out the best in you. They are not perfect, but are always perfect for you." I think this quote sums us up perfectly! No marriage is perfect or easy. You have to remember to give of yourself, be appreciative, and never take each other for granted! Everyday we try to take note of the little things that matter the most. Erik and I are not perfect. We both have our flaws, but I'd like to think that we are both accepting of these flaws, and always strive for a close friendship and love! I can't wait for our next 50 years!!

Saying Goodbye to Stryna

While we were having fun in Dayton, my Mom called to tell me that my Great Auntie had passed away. I called her Stryna, and she was one of my last elder relatives. She lived up in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, and we would go to visit her every few months. My Dad (her nephew) had been going to visit her weekly for the past few years to bring her lunch and spend time with her. She had gone into a nursing home a few months ago, and was actually doing quite well. We all saw her in the beginning of April, and I’m so grateful for that time I spent with her. She was in great spirits, had clear conversations with us, and was so happy to see Caleb and Natalie! She loved Caleb and our dogs! Every few months I’d send her new pictures of Caleb or the dogs, and she’d hang them up in her kitchen so she could look at them! And she loved Erik!! She would smother him with kisses everytime she saw him! She always treated me like a granddaughter.

In the last week or so her health took a turn for the worse, and she was admitted into a hospital. Last Friday morning she passed away. She was 89 years old. I’m glad that she didn’t suffer for a long time. It’s sad to me that all of my grandparents and older relatives who were pseudo grandparents to me have all passed away. You don’t realize how fast life goes by until those people leave your life, and you realize that you didn’t get to spend all that much time with them. I will miss my Stryna.

Joe and Ally's Wedding

Summertime, road trip, family, and a wedding…what could be more fun?! We left on Thursday for Dayton, Ohio for Erik’s cousin, Joe’s wedding. Erik was asked to be an usher, so we were all invited to the rehearsal dinner. We arrived at the hotel with enough time for Caleb to take a nap, then all freshened up and headed to dinner. Caleb met two little girls, who were family friends of the groom. They were 2 and 4 years old, and Caleb had a blast with them. The food at the restaurant was great, and all of the guys had fun talking about their golf game for the next morning.

While the guys went golfing Friday morning, we found breakfast, and took Caleb to the pool for a swim. He LOVES the water! I wasn’t sure if he’d like it because he usually fusses if it’s cold, but he doesn’t care about that anymore! Reminds me of myself! We bought him some water wings, but he’s still a little small to use them!

I put Caleb down for a nap while everyone got lunch, and then we all had some time to relax before some chaos broke out! No matter how much time we girls give ourselves to get ready for an event, there’s never enough time! It was time to go and we were all still trying to finish our hair and makeup! Luckily we were right on time for the wedding ceremony!

The ceremony was outside, and it was HOT! We were all laughing at Erik who was dripping sweat, and sweating through his tux! Gross! Haha! Ally, the bride, looked gorgeous, as did all of her bridesmaids! Joe shed some tears when he saw his bride, which I love! I swear that is my favorite part of any wedding! We were grateful to get inside into the air conditioning and had fun watching the little kids run around while we waited for the wedding party to take pictures.

We all had a great time dancing together at the reception! The best part always goes by so fast! Caleb ended up falling asleep in Gram’s (Great Grandma) arms, and we put him in the stroller for the rest of the night.

Saturday we checked out of our hotel and went to the Bride’s parents’ house for a cookout. We had another gorgeous, but hot day! All of the boys had fun playing a soccer game, while we girls played with Caleb in the shade! Afterwards we went to Scot and Sandy’s house in Indy. We ordered pizza, checked out wedding pictures, went in the hot tub, ate ice cream, and played cards. What a great night!

Sunday morning we all went to church, had lunch, and watched the US women’s soccer game, before loading up the car and heading home. And guess what, we get to do it all again this weekend!! Wedding #2, Jay and Tina’s wedding, is on Sunday, so we’ll get to see everyone again! This makes for the best summer memories!

my favorite part :o)

4th of July

We had another awesome 4th of July Weekend! It officially feels like summer! On Friday night, Erik and I met up with our friends Doug and Lindsay at Naperville's Ribfest to hangout and hear REO Speedwagon. The place was packed so we were glad that Grandma Joy stayed at our house with Caleb! Even though we didn't know many songs, we had fun just hanging out and eating some ribs and pulled pork sandwiches.

On Saturday we went to my Aunt Anna and Uncle Bob's house for BBQ #1! My Dad, cousins, and Aunt Beth and Uncle Nick were there. We had fun watching Caleb go in the sprinkler, and had some delicious food!

Sunday morning we went to breakfast with my godmom's son, Dan and his girlfriend Nic. They came to Chicago for the weekend, and met up with us in Naperville. It was great to see them and catch up! In the afternoon, we went to the pool in Lindsay and Doug's neighborhood and took Caleb swimming! He LOVED it, and by the end was dipping his face in the water! He's going to be a fish like his Mama and Auntie Nat! That night we had BBQ #2 and relaxed on our friends' patio! Perfect summer day!

Monday was the 4th! Our favorite day of the year! It's all of our favorite things rolled into one day: grilling out, family, friends, playing outside, and fireworks! Not to mention, the day Erik and I started dating 9 years ago!!

We went to Erik's Dad and Nan's house for our annual cookout! We had fun playing lawn games, eating lots of food, and enjoying a perfectly sunny day! I actually played bags with Erik and did good! Caleb had fun with another little boy who was over. Caiden was 18 months old, and the two hit if off right away!

Erik and I were really curious how Caleb would react to the fireworks! We like them so much, so we really hoped he'd like them too! Last year he slept right through them! This year he loved them!! He was clapping, and pointing, and "crazy shaking!" He wasn't afraid at all! We all had so much fun!
