An EF4 tornado hit Tuscaloosa, AL yesterday evening. The actual campus was not hit, but just a few miles away, buildings and houses were leveled. It is so sad and heartbreaking seeing all the pictures of massive destruction. Thank God all of our friends and family are all right, but it's still so strange thinking that this has happened where we used to live. Tuscaloosa was our home for two years. We absolutely loved living there! We drove down the mentioned streets, McFarland and 15th St everyday!
Some of the Graduate Assistants who work in athletics, just like I did, all shared a house together. It was demolished. I don't even know these people, but I am so incredibly sad for their losses. I feel like I must do something to help! I'm waiting to hear from one of the athletic training program directors about a drive or fund they are setting up to help.
The video below shows just how close the mile wide tornado was to the campus. The structure it nearly hits is Bryant Denny football stadium.
Please pray for the people of Tuscaloosa.

13 months old
Caleb weighs 23 lbs 4 oz (50th %) and is 31” tall (75th %)
Caleb is learning how to climb down off the couch. I call him a little crab because kicks his legs all about to get himself turned around, so he can get down feet first.
He is starting to say some words and make new sounds: dog, car, Dada, Nana, Mum

He’s starting to learn animal sounds. He roars when we ask what a lion says!
We can tell when Caleb needs to go poop, and have had him sit on the toilet a few times, and he goes!
He wants to pet the puppies, but he gets very excited and tries to squeeze them!

Caleb’s fingers are in great danger! He’s all about opening and closing cabinets, doors, and drawers! Mom never sits down :o)
He says “ahhh” after he sees someone take a drink.
When we ask him questions, he nods yes or shakes no.

Caleb likes to brush his teeth. He gets excited when he sees his toothbrush, and gets upset when he’s all done and we put the toothbrush away.
Caleb’s favorite foods are bananas, puffs, yogurt, noodles, cheese, peaches, pancakes, and whole milk.
His gums have been swollen, and it looks like he may be getting his next 4 teeth all at the same time. He chews on things, but never cries!

Caleb got a Mickey Mouse for his birthday from his Aunt Mishi, and he knows him from his other stuffed animals.
He has been a little stinker when it’s time for bed. We follow the same routine: put on pjs, bottle of milk, brush teeth, and snuggle in his room. We can tell he’s tired and falling asleep, but the second we put him in his crib he laughs hysterically and kicks his legs around!
On a positive note, he’s been taking his naps in his crib!

A Day in the Life of Caleb John and his Mom!
I thought I'd share with you the details of a typical day together!
6:30 am
Up and at em! The latest Caleb has ever slept is 7:30am, but not today! Erik brought him in bed with me thinking that he may sleep a few more minutes, but after about 5 minutes, he scuttled around a slid out of bed. I say scuttled, because he looks like a little crab kicking his legs around to get down feet first!
6:45 am
He drinks a bottle of milk on the couch. I decided I need a drink too! COFFEE! He scuttles off the couch and gets dog toys out! I let the dogs out (Caleb holds Reese's leash), feed the dogs, realize milk spilled on his PJ shirt, go upstairs (he crawls up the stairs) and get dressed for the day (puts PJs in laundry basket). Caleb plays in his playpen while I gets dressed. I strip our bed to wash and change linens. Come downstairs and he runs for dog food bowl!
8:00 am
Only 8am!?! I need a refill! I get breakfast ready while Caleb starts on some puffs! We share an english muffin, banana, and yogurt. Caleb is getting better at using his fork!
8:30 am
I put on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse so I can scrub down his highchair and pump. Yes, you read right, I'm still pumping! I'm down to 8 minutes twice a day...almost done!! Caleb did a great job switching over to whole milk! He played with his toys and watched Mickey.
9:00 am
Read some books, then head upstairs for a nap. We decide to read some more upstairs, and then rock in his chair. He falls asleep and I lay him in his crib at 9:40. Oh please stay asleep for at least a half hour!! I run downstairs to throw the sheets in the dryer and do a quick workout video.
10:20 am
Nap is over! At least I squeezed in a workout!! I tried to get him to lay down a few more minutes, but he wasn't having it! I put new sheets on our bed. We snuggle a few more minutes in his chair because he still seems tired, but after 10 minutes he scuttles away!
10:45 am
Gold fish snack and play time
11:15 am
snack turned into lunch: gold fish, turkey, cheese, and juice. I sneak in some crackers, turkey, and leftover noodles. Re-clean the highchair!
12:00 pm
Played in the basement with the dogs. Riley, Reese, and Bella got a great workout chasing after their toys, and I chased after Caleb! I also did some therapy exercises for my sore shoulder. I taught Caleb how to kick his soccer ball!
1:00 pm
Let the dogs outside. I brought Caleb outside and we played with some bubbles for the first time! I can't wait till gets warmer!!
1:15 pm
Caleb is looking sleepy, and kind of whining, so I ask him if he's thirsty. He nods yes! I get his milk ready in his sippy cup, try to run to the bathroom, turn around to see him shaking his cup upside down, and milk dripping out from a no drip cup! Ughh! Run back, pick up the milk, run to the bathroom, wipe sippy cup, turn around to see Caleb dumping full dog water bowl! Again, ughhh!! No towels downstairs, so I run upstairs to grab towels, back downstairs, and clean up the mess. Grab Caleb and milk, half way upstairs, realize the dogs need water because they ran around for an hour. Head back downstairs, get more water, and squat to put it down while holding Caleb. No wonder my hip hurts!
1:30 pm
Caleb has his milk, and we read some more books. Bella is whining because she is stuck downstairs. Carry Caleb downstairs to open gate, and then back to his chair to snuggle and rock.
2:00 pm
Nap time and time for Mom to try to organize and clean up some stuff around the house! Anyone else exhausted yet ?!?
3:30 pm
Nap time is done. We let the dogs out and get a snack. Peas followed by blueberry yogurt. We were surprised by Daddy getting home early! So nice!!
4:00 pm
Brush the dogs and their teeth while Erik plays with Caleb. Then take Riley for a run. When I get back Erik's playing with Caleb, so I work on a quick project, and then pick up dog poop before it rains.
6:00 pm
Erik's makes our dinner and I feed Caleb and the dogs. Caleb ate pureed pot roast, greens beans, peas, and corn, tomato parmesan noodles, and some nilla wafers for dessert! This was technically his first dessert after dinner! After dinner Erik "cleaned up the kitchen" while I took Caleb upstairs to get ready for bed. Quotes are used because he washed a pan while I wiped Caleb with a washcloth, put on lotion, combed his hair, and got his PJs on. When I came downstairs I still had to wipe down the highchair and get Caleb's bottle ready! Duh!!! Don't I know that the Bulls are on?!?
7:00 pm
I thawed chopped spinach for mini quiches, so I have to make them tonight or else the spinach sits in the water and wilts. So as the boys are watching the Bulls, I'm baking, then trying to scrapbook a little bit.
8:00 pm
I shower while Erik gives Caleb his bottle and then brushes his teeth. Erik rocks him for a little bit, and then I rock him. Finally asleep at 8:40! Then I scrapbook some more. Erik cleaned up my quiche pans while a put Caleb to sleep :o)
9:40 pm
I'M EXHAUSTED!! Pumping and going to bed!!!
It has been a long, but super productive day!!

Happy Easter
Happy Easter everyone!! It's been a beautiful weekend! On Friday, Grandma Joy surprised Caleb with a bunny basket and some goodies! Caleb also got a surprise Easter package from Great Grandma and Grandpa!
Then on Saturday, we dyed eggs with Dido and went to basket blessing at church.
This morning we had our traditional breakfast of eggs, babka (ukrainian bread), and ham. Caleb's Easter basket from Mommy and Daddy had some new books, farm animal eggs, and some bath toys! We got dressed in our Easter outfits and headed to church. After church we went to Oma and Opa's house for a delicious lunch!! The Easter bunny came to Pops and Nana's house and brought some bunny cars! Caleb loved playing with them! When we came home, Caleb had another basket to open from Babtcha and Dido Rabbit! It's clear Caleb is loved!! We appreciate everyones thoughtfulness!! We had a beautiful weekend celebrating Jesus' Resurrection! He is Risen!

1st Haircut
While getting Caleb's Easter basket ready I thought, "oh it's Caleb's 1st...wait, it's his SECOND Easter!" Now we're in the second of everything! I ran to tell Erik and got sad! Well then I realized that there will still be a lot of other firsts, like Caleb's 1st haircut last Thursday!
We went to the Velarde's Salon, where Lisa works, and had Nick's Mom, Laura, cut his hair! He was so good! He sat in my lap and sat pretty still! No tears! Laura did a great job! Now he looks even more like a little boy!

Caleb's 1st Birthday Party
Caleb's 1st birthday party went just as I had envisioned! I'd been planning since the beginning of the year! I knew I wanted to do a baby jungle animal theme, because this may be the only birthday where I have the most say in the theme! In the few weeks before the party I had finished making all of the decorations!
