From the Mouth of my Babe

Caleb's latest one liners!

We met up with Auntie Lisa to do some shopping.  She had just finished eating a sandwich, which Caleb saw her take her last bites.  Well while we shopped I had given him his gold fish to snack on.  Lisa asked if she could have one, and he replied, "No, you just ate!"  Our mouths dropped open!  What a stinker!!

When he's doing something that he knows he shouldn't be doing, he says, "This is called a game!"  As if banging on the table, kicking his toys around, jumping on the couch, etc will be acceptable if it's a game!

Puddle Jumpers

Caleb began "pre" preschool classes through the park district today!  It's a half hour class, once a week.  It focuses on becoming more independent, and teaching developmental skills needed to start preschool.  Puddle Jumpers 1's main goal is to get children used to being away from parents, and to overcome tears, complete an art project and participate with the class.

We thought it would be great for him to socialize with other kids, and to be mentally stimulated instead of doing the same things at home!  He did great!!

Last night at bedtime he asked if I would be in school with him, and I told him that Mommies aren't allowed...that it's just for kids to go and have fun!  I also told him that I'd be in the room next door just in case anything happened.

When it was time to go into the room I told him I'd see him in a little while.  He walked in and paused with his head down.  I thought, "Uh-oh, here come some tears."  Then he picked his head up, walked over to the toys, and began to play.

Of the 7 total kids, Caleb and one other boy were the only ones not crying.  I took a peek half way through the half hour and saw that Caleb was still sitting by the toys playing by himself.

I am so proud of him!  We talked about how he felt and how he liked school.  He said he was sad in the beginning because he wanted to go home, but then I pointed out that he found the new toys, and he agreed that that was fun!  I told him that next week if there are kids crying, to maybe tell them it's ok and see if they want to play with him :)

Caleb ~ 2 1/2 years old

When talking about what Mommy and Daddy do for work, he asked me where he works?  I said, "You're a kid.  You don't have to work yet!  You get to play all day!"  He replied, "I work in the bathroom.  I brush my teeth, go potty, and shave!"  I seriously cannot make up the awesome stuff he says!

Caleb weighs 32 lbs, wears size 2T clothes, size 8 shoes, and size 5 diapers.

Caleb goes to bed around 9pm and sleeps till about 7:30am.  I know he goes to bed late, but it's probably because of his late nap from 1:00-4:00.  We've tried to move his nap earlier many times, but he just fights us till about 1:00!

Erik asked Caleb to throw something in the garbage for him, and Caleb said, "No Daddy, this isn't garbage, its recycle!" and put it in the recycling bag!

He puts ketchup on EVERYTHING!! Literally everything on his dinner plate gets dipped into ketchup...vegetables, chicken, noodles, even tomatoes!  He's also becoming a picky eater, and says his favorite foods are chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  Even though I make a million other things for him to eat, these are his most popular requests!  So much for getting him to eat healthy!
He calls Winnie the Pooh, "Winnie the Kapooh," and it's the cutest thing! He also says kumbrella, Mr. Katato Head, and shogel (shovel)! I'll be sad when he says these things the right way!

His latest shenanigans include shrieking at the top of his lungs when we say no.  I think he's doing it less because we're just ignoring it.

Caleb knows all his colors, shapes, and can count to 15!  Sometimes he gets up to 19, but then insists that 100 comes after that!  He also knows almost all his letters.
He's really taken a liking to one of Mila's baby dolls.  He's been feeding it, burping it, and changing it daily!

He's been doing pretty well with going on the potty. He's still wearing diapers, but keeps them dry for most of the day. He'll use the potty when I ask him to, but never thinks to go on his own. Hopefully that's the next step!

His favorite shows are still Team Umizoomi and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He also really likes Secret Agent Oso and Doc McStuffins.

Caleb LOVES his little sister!  Every morning he comes into our room and asks where she is.  When he lays next to her he either holds her hand or strokes her head.  And he talks to her in such a sweet way!

I'm always telling Caleb and Mila how cute they are.  Well the other morning Caleb said to me, "Mama, you're so cute!"  And that was when I was still in my pjs and before a shower!

Caleb is a talking machine!!  I swear he hears a word once and adds it into his vocabulary!

We also think he has a photographic memory.  He remembers things he may have just seen once, from months ago!

He's been starting to "read" on his own. He'll sit with a book and either look through the pages , or read out loud to his toys!

Mila ~ 2 months old

Her nicknames include: Mrs. Potato (but said in Ukrainian), Milochka Zirochka (another Ukrainian one meaning Mila, little star)

She's wearing size 1 diapers and size 3 month clothes.

Mila is not a very long napper. She will sleep for about an hour 2 to 3 times a day, and sometimes will sleep for 2 hours. She takes her best naps either in someones arms or in the bouncer.  I almost laughed when the pediatrician said that she should be awake for an hour and a half between naps! I keep telling her that she won't miss out on anything, but she doesn't believe me!

Mila goes to sleep between 8:00 and 9:00pm, and usually sleeps about 6 hours before waking up to eat. During that feeding, I'm up for about an hour.

She likes to snuggle! After the middle of the night feeding, I keep her curled up next to me in bed.

She tucks her thumb in between her index and middle finger when she makes a fist...just like Caleb did!

She's starting to ohh and ahh more! She has the sweetest sounding voice!

Mila already tries to hold her bottle when she's eating.

She has feisty fists! She has a very tight grip, and is always grabbing onto my shirt when I hold her. I imagine her saying, "Keep me close Mom!"

She has the saddest pouty face before she cries! It pulls at your heart! And when she cries, oh my gosh! I want to cry! Her face turns bright red, she screams at the top of her lungs, and acts like she is in terrible pain. I try everything I can to get her to stop! Sometimes the only thing that works is swaddling her, giving her a paci, walking around, and singing or shushing to her.

At her two month old checkup she weighed 10 lbs 9 oz and was 22" long (50th percentile for both).

Mila likes laying on her play mat, reaching out for the animals, and kicking her legs along to the creepy circus music! Anyone who's heard it will agree that the music is creepy! LOL!

She loves falling sleep listening to the music on her seahorse.

Mila still has blue eyes, and I think she will have brown hair!

She has the biggest open mouth smile, and it's adorable! Just in the last week I feel like she really knows who Erik and I are! It's something about the way she looks at us.

She's ticklish, especially by her legs!

She is pretty good at holding her head up!

We are having so much fun with our little girl!  Her sweet personality is really starting to show!

We did it!

I was singing the song from Dora the Explorer on Tuesday, "We did it, we did it, we really did it!"  To some it may not be a big deal, but to me I had a huge accomplishment!  I went to the park with both kids and Riley!  Erik's Mom gave us a double stroller as an early Christmas present.  After Mila ate, she fell asleep and I felt we had a perfect opportunity!  I got them both in the stroller and got Riley on the leash.  I was able to wrap Riley's leash around the handle bar, so he didn't pull me as much as he usually does!  Mila stayed asleep while Caleb and I ran around at the park for 15 minutes, and when she woke up I told Caleb we needed to head home...and he listened!!!  He didn't run away from me or make me chase him through the park!  He climbed right in, and we walked back home.  Mila even stopped crying as soon as we began walking!
