Caleb is 12!

How?  How is my first born 12 years old?  It's seriously a blur.  I remember bits and pieces, but think that I mostly remember the pictures that I took and have looked at 1000 times.  I cannot believe that next year he will be a teenager!  He was so sweet this morning.  When I told him Happy Birthday, he told me, "Happy day you became a Mom!"  I love his heart so much!

Today we took him to a lizard and exotic animal expo!  What more could he want, right?  We went with Scar, Nikko, Naia, and Sidona, and then came back to our house for lunch.  Then we had family come over for cake.

He is mature and immature at different times of the day!  Some times he talks in a baby voice just to annoy me, and then other times he does things without being asked and I feel like things are finally starting to sink in!

He is about 5'1" tall and weighs 95 lbs.  He has gotten very lean and long in the past year!  He fits into size 12-14 again and wears a size 6-7 shoe.

He loves doing Minecraft on the computer.  

His latest obsession is time travel and quantum physics!  Seriously!  His brain is always surprising me!

He is impatient with himself when he learns new things.  If he isn't the best at something the first time he gets upset and wants to give up right away.

He still likes to talk to me about his day.  I seriously hope that never changes.

Caleb's 12th Neon Glow Party

Caleb and I were going back and forth about what to do for his kid party.  He was hoping to invite some of the girls from his grade in hopes of finally having a chance to talk to one of them!  Isn't he so cute?  I had looked up different outings we could do or places to go, but everything is so expensive!  I finally settled on the idea of a neon glow party in our basement.  I decorated the basement with neon paper cutouts and switched out the light bulbs for black lights.  I think it turned out pretty cool!

Unfortunately the one girl he was hoping to talk to couldn't make it, but I told him we'd still have a fun party!  I kind of expected the kids to be a little wild, but I didn't expect them to run and throw things all over the basement!  It was more hectic than I expected!  They ate pizza, watched Caleb open his gifts, and sang Happy Birthday to him.  And the rest of the time they ran amok in the basement!  According to Caleb, they all had fun!

Welcome Rosy 🦎

Caleb's wish, a few years in the making, came true last night! He has wanted a lizard since he was eight years old. I told him maybe in a few years when he can take on that responsibility. With his 12th birthday coming up in a couple weeks, we started talking about how we thought this might be the right time for a pet lizard! We stopped by Critters just to look at tanks, and learned that they rescue animals! Someone had brought in a bearded dragon because they couldn't take care of her anymore. Caleb bonded with Rosy right away!  The staff at Critters was amazing and spent a half-hour talking with us about bearded dragon care!

I secretly called Erik and told him that I felt Rosy was meant to be! Her adoption fee even included her whole set-up and tank! He agreed and said we should get her to surprise Caleb! While Caleb was at church youth group, I recruited Uncle Nick and the cousin crew to help me bring Rosy home! They were so cute and excited to help get her tank up to his room! Then they made birthday cards for him! 

When Caleb came home, we had to wait a few minutes for Erik to come home after work. Once we were all home, Erik, Mila, and I went up to Caleb's room without him noticing. I called him upstairs to sort his laundry. After a few minutes of repeatedly asking, he finally came upstairs, opened his door and saw Rosy in his room! It was one of the best surprises we've pulled off and he was so excited!

After 2 sessions of club team soccer, Mila was asked to joint their travel team!  I wasn't really sure how that all worked.  I assumed that everyone who gets asked to tryout for travel automatically makes it, but she is the only new player on the team!  She got to pick her own number, and picked #12 since she was born in 2012.  I'm so excited to see her develop her talents!  She's excited because one of her classmates is also on the team!
